A Nanosecond of Inner Peace

While yoga has recently become trendy across North America, the practice has flourished and supported islanders for decades.  Island teacher Celeste Jason has long been at the centre of the local yoga community both as a teacher and a creator of yoga studios.

I am the co-owner of the Rock Salt Restaurant and my sister Jana is the proud proprietress of Stuff & Nonsense, both located in the heart of Fulford Village, near the ferry terminal here on the south end of Salt Spring Island.  We share a love of travel and this time of year we are both busily planning a winter of globetrotting.

Most islanders don’t live on Salt Spring out of familial habit or because of economic practicality, but rather because they were captivated by the island’s beauty and character during a visit.  Most ‘locals,’ as we proudly and occasionally arrogantly refer to ourselves, made a conscious yet impractical choice to call this island home.

Many Islanders are making a positive difference in the world way beyond our salty shores.  This time of year, with the growing season fading, and preparations for iconic autumn events like Fall Fair and Apple Festival in full swing, gardens are on many people’s minds.
