Salt Spring’s reputation as one of the top small town arts destinations in North America is well deserved. The number and quality of fine art galleries sets Salt Spring on the international arts scene. And the number of artists and artisans living on the island, means art is woven into the fabric of everyday life here. Salt Spring Island – where life is art!
Wildlife painter Robert Bateman makes his home here on Salt Spring as does Nick Bantock, and a host of other celebrated artists in a variety of disciplines.
In the downtown core you can take a self-guided exploration of a series of galleries with exquisite pieces in various mediums, all within walking distance. Once a year the collective of galleries puts on a Masterpiece Weekend that calls on all of the galleries’ artists to produce original works for the weekend show.
