What does this fair weather Canadian island in the Pacific Ocean and a wine region in France have in common? According Steve Coopman, local wine enthusiast and writer “If I were to compare Salt Spring to anywhere in the world it would be Provence – because of how food and wine go together here”.
Would you like to taste hand-crafted award-winning locally grown wines in stunning natural surroundings?
If so, enjoy wine touring on gorgeous Salt Spring Island and learn about the exciting things happening in the emerging BC coastal wine world.
The three Salt Spring Island wineries are proud to be part of the expanding BC coastal wine community. The cooler climate in this region favours the creation of crisp, clean, flavourful sparkling, white, pink, red and dessert wines that pair marvellously with foods. In addition, the island is in the forefront of developing new grape varieties that are disease resistant and which ripen early here. This area is also proving ideal for making sparkling wine—an exciting new direction for the islands.
Each of the wineries welcomes visitors to sample wine in lovely vineyard settings – Mistaken Identity in the north, Salt Spring Winery and Garry Oaks Winery on south Salt Spring. Both Mistaken Identity and Salt Spring Winery have picnic grounds. Salt Spring Winery has regular live music in the vineyard on Friday and Sunday afternoons,so you can sit,sip and listen. There are also annual wine events such as the Summer Solstice Celebration (June), Sip and Savour (Sept), and Harvest Grape Stomp (Oct).
With three wineries producing over 20 different wines there is truly something for everyone. Sampling wine and food in a beautiful setting is a delightful way to experience Salt Spring Island.
